AMRC

The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing is a £100 million global research partnership that identifies, researches and solves advanced manufacturing problems.  Research is undertaken collaboratively and pools the resources of over 50 companies in the aerospace supply chain, focusing on five interconnected areas of interest:  High Performance Machining; Composite Materials; Measurement and Testing; Customisable Assembly; and Additive Manufacturing.  The AMRC works with the UK manufacturing supply chain to provide a flexible, integrated research facility for benchmarking and improving manufacturing methods and techniques for difficult to machine materials.  This activity means supporting relevant programs, requirements, and requests of the AMRC’s partner companies, the goals of local and regional companies, and our funding providers.

AMRC engineers, working alongside the Bromley Technologies Ltd and its Formula Ice 2010 program, have used their combined knowledge of manufacturing, engineering and sports technology to produce the latest sets of bobsleigh runners to come from the Bromley R&D program which were used in the 2009 World Cup  and an ongoing collaborative program in composite materials.
