Formula Ice - The Origin
'Formula Ice' was conceived by Bromley CEO and 2008 World Champion Skeleton racer Kristan Bromley (KB) with one purpose:
To give disadvantaged winter sport athletes a chance of standing on the start line with a genuine chance of repeatable success. As a British athlete with no bobsleigh track to practice on and limited local knowledge of performance defining weather systems, KB as an 'innovateur' looked to technology as a means to bridge the gap with the traditional powerhouses of winter sport. This philosophy earned KB and fellow British athletes considerable success over two Olympiads with over 50 medals won at Olympic, World Championship and World Cup events.
Quote - Professor Kristan Bromley, 2008 World Skeleton Champion
“As GB winter sports athletes, our main challenge has always been in gaining access to and training time at sports specific venues, whilst understanding the weather systems and local knowledge that so often controls winning performances.
Technology is a strength that we play to in overcoming these weaknesses. By becoming technologically and knowledge independent we have the foundation to challenge anyone in the world. However to be successful, world class athletes need world class engineering support. That is what the F-ICE Performance mission is all about.”
To date this Bromley Team Innovation philosophy has helped international skeleton & bobsleigh athletes to win over 50 Olympic, World Cup and European medals. These include Shelley Rudman’s Olympic Silver medal in the Skeleton event in Turin 2006 and Kristan Bromley’s success as the first British male to all three world titles in one season.
Vision- The Future
Bromley's vision for Formula Ice is to become the best technology programme on the planet for high performance winter sport athletes, expanding its sport and athlete base to include more winter sports and athletes. In the summer of 2010, the Bromley Formula Ice will announce its 2014 programme
